Just got back from my third viewing. Saw a pre-screening in June, a midnight show last night, and the first matinee this morning.
And I have to say that the impact, if anything, is greater on repeated viewings. The scene on Miranda is still creepy as all hell, Wash's death is still a punch in the gut, and the movie itself holds up terrifically. Plus there's stuff that you don't necessarily remember that finally make sense, like River saying about the Reavers "They don't ever lie down"--because everyone else on Miranda basically just lay down and died, and the Reavers didn't. Them "not ever lying down" makes sense.
The bar scene holds up too. Joss has been criticized for making "yet another 'girl kicks ass' movie, but River really looks like she's whaling on people with a heck of a lot of power behind her punches and kicks. Other than how graceful she is, she doesn't look "girly" at all...as contrasted with Inara, who gets the snot beat out of her when she attempts to help Mal with the Operative and looks completely girly.
The Hubby liked the movie too; I was afraid that I'd over-hyped it, but he completely enjoyed it and wants to see it again.
I knew about Wash too, but it didn't make it any less painful, I cried so hard. I've never cried during a movie. You can see the love.
...I don't have a serenity icon at the moment...DAMN IT SOON!!

Not just the plot, but the dialogue, and all the screen shots so so beautiful. The one where they discover Book dying, and River's behind the burning swingset. wowowow.

No, seriously, I'm too tired, and I'm already at skip=100. The movie was quite good, though.
